New Exhibit: “Home of the Hog” Celebrates Marion’s Motorcycle Legacy
The Indiana Motorcycle Preservation Society (IMPS) is proud to announce a groundbreaking new exhibit that will honor Marion’s rich motorcycling heritage. Set to open in January 2025 at the Grant County History Center, located within the Marion Public Library, this permanent exhibit will highlight Marion’s unique contributions to motorcycle history, including its storied claim as the “Home of the Hog.”
A Journey Through Marion’s Motorcycle History
Titled “Home of the Hog: The Cornfield Classic and Marion’s Motorcycle Legacy,” the exhibit will transport visitors back to the thrilling days of the Cornfield Classic races of 1919 and 1920. These iconic dirt track races captivated audiences and established Marion as a hub for motorcycle culture and innovation.
Through interactive displays, artifacts, and storytelling, visitors will learn about the daring riders, roaring machines, and challenging racing conditions that defined this era. The exhibit will also delve into the pivotal role Marion played in the origins of Harley-Davidson’s “Hog” branding—a nickname that has become an enduring symbol of their motorcycles and the tight-knit Harley community.
Opening Night Program – January 24, 2025
The exhibit’s debut program will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 6 PM. Attendees will have the chance to hear from guest speaker Todd Armfield, a retired aviation mechanic, former flat-track motorcycle racer, and IMPS board member. Passionate about preserving Indiana’s motorcycling history, Armfield shared, “This exhibit isn’t just about motorcycles—it’s about courage, innovation, and the community that made Marion a vital part of this story.”

IMPS envisions this exhibit as a dynamic and ever-evolving celebration of Indiana’s motorcycling roots. To bring this vision to life, the organization is reaching out to community members and motorcycle enthusiasts for contributions.
